Machine Vision Illumination - Why is it so important?

Improper Illumination causes a variety of imaging problems

Correct Illumination is critical to any type of optical or imaging system. Blooming or hot spots, will not allow the part to be seen properly. Shadowing can cause false edge calculations when measuring, resulting in inaccurate measurements.

What are the different types of Illumination?

Coaxial/Ringlight - Illumination the mounts directly on the lens.

  • Advantages - Provides uniform illumination when used at a proper distance.
  • Disadvantages - A circular glare can bee seen on reflective surfaces.

Directional - Having the ability to point Illumination that mounts directly on the lens.

  • Advantages - Provides uniform illumination when used at a proper distance.
  • Disadvantages - A circular glare can bee seen on reflective surfaces.
