After we have analyzed the physical properties of the part and its environment, we know what the W looks like so we can select the kind of geometries we want. We may now select the type of geometry that is best suited for our application.
In backlight applications you can adjust distance and collimating the light to attain the maximum image. In this case you are looking at passed light Vs blocked light.
If we have varying translucency in a backlit part, we might be able to adjust the distance to scatter the light more. With the differences in translucency as we go through a part we can use that to our advantage.
In backlight applications you will see the contour of the part, the translucency of the part, however, the Surface Finish and color will not be seen.
